BBGS at Pavilion

Pang Sow Yoong (BBGS Class of 1972 Sixth Form) is liaising with the management of Pavillion with regard, to the possibility of setting up a tangible reminder (memorial/display etc) that this was once BBGS!

Please email your ideas/brainstorms/thought showers to Sow Yoong at syphang@gmail.com

  • BBGS Tuckshop: If we can't get exhibition space, then we contact old girls who are in the food business to start a eatery there (ask for discounted rental). Decorate the restaurant with memorabilia, place old BBGS school magazines there, have a notice board to hang print outs from all BBGS girls who send their greetings and post the latest BBGS news there. The shop can also sell old postcards, school badges, etc to raise funds. Waitresses will be dressed in BBGS uniforms. The stall will sell the best kueh talam in town!

  • Wall Poster showing facade of BBGS: If all we can get is just a wall space, then we will maximise it by asking old girls to get themselves videotaped as they relate their school memories in front of the wall poster. We can ask Pavilion, MAS, AirAsia or successful old girls to sponsor prizes for the best video. The younger girls can help us to set up podcast, Facebooks, youtube and interactive websites to publicise the project.

  • Launching Ceremony: If we can get Pavilion to sponsor the foyer for the launching ceremony of the wall poster, we can invite all the former headmistresses, teachers, cleaners, jaga etc to the launch. Programmes can include our famous Choral Speaking, singing our school song, etc. Also get girls from Seri Bintang to do their cheerleading stuff (however Ms Cooke might not be too pleased about it) as they are our younger sisters who must also know their roots.

Update from Phang Sow Yoong (12 May 2009)

Hi BBGSians,

So grateful to Joanna for keeping the spirit of BBGS alive in this blog. Am so encouraged to see the fierce loyalty among BBGSians of all races and religions. Where to find this spirit in KL schools today? My family is amazed at how emotional we can get about a demolished school. The MoE certainly can learn a thing or two from BBGS where racial integration is concerned.

To answer ANONYMOUS...I think we should sing the BBGS song in the English and Malay versions as well as get SBU to sing their song. Our younger sisters must know their BBGS roots and catch the spirit.

MIAOHMIA...you still have BBGS blood in your veins. We welcome you with open arms. We need ppl like you to carry on the tradition, Can you link us up with SBU girls?

JOSEPHINE: Ooh but you can't match yours truly who studied in BBGS from kindergarten to Form 6. My kindergarten comprised two classrooms in the wooden secondary school tuckshop which was later taken over by "Kow Soh" (story in Centenary magazine). As a thoroughbred, my blood boils whenever I think of the fate of BBGS.

My ex-colleague has passed my email to the CEO and marketing team of Pavilion and he said they will be contacting us soon.

Pray please...remember the school motto NISI DOMINUS FRUSTRA. (This was engraved on my garden waterfall--my husband's idea! So wise of him!)

I am student of 1975 - Form Five. A FULL Fletched BBGS Girl Head to Toe from Primary to Secoundary.

A "CAFETERIA" / Makan Place will be great in PAVILION decorated with Pictures of OLD School faces , any photo taken, events etc. A place to meet, drink have lunch, GOOD food will be so so cool and Original for BBGS. Old ex school girls like myself now in our fifties still have fond fond memories of the place.

Joanna you have my full support. There was mentioned of setting up a BBGS PLAQUE in Pavillion in Memory of BBGS , hope that idea also will become a Sucess.

This is a fantastic idea! I think the idea of having a small cafe run by ex BBGS girls would be great.

I would love to help in any way possible.

I think maybe we can ask the Management to give us a small space where we can put up some exhibits/photos of the school?

It's a great idea. It could be a referral point and also something for tourists/anybody to know the history that has once been there. :)

I lift my legs in agreement to the BBGS Cafeteria. Maybe name it BBGS Kantin where we will sell some of BBGS most famous dishes.

Dressing up the girls in our old school uniform is simply a superb idea. I always thought our uniform is one of the kind. With our Prefect Baju Kurung and our PE Attire, not forgetting our Form Six's tiny little blue ribbon. We must ensure that their Uniform are BBGS standard all the way, from their Black Ribbon to their House Color Pin to their folded down to ankle socks. =D that is how I remember it to be.

Repeating wht everyone else is saying, I love the idea, I'll help in any way I can! When I pass by Pavillion, all the memories start to come along in a flash. I miss the old days. Changed to a new school then, but couldn't forget friendships and experiences there in srk bbgs..

If there are a group of BB artists that can work on a 3D or 4D piece which can be a permanent display at the mall then it would be less maintenance and more cost effective. Eg. a statuette/figurine made up of BBGS memorabilia and famous traditions.

Suvadiva, please pass me the contacts of these BB artists. Sowyoong (012-292 1460)

Personally, I would opt for a plaque somewhere prominent in Pavilion. You know, the one that is as tall as a table. It could probably at the main entrance or even right at the centre point of the mall.

We can have writings on the side engraved in the stone or something. And on top a bronze plaque with our badge and the words 'Nisi Dominus Frustra'. Below it could be a list of our principals and we could probably include a para about our school and also our school song lyrics.

I think it's quite classy and elegant, just like our school...

I'm in too! I may not be literally a true BBGSian, but in heart, mind and soul I'm as true as you can get! I like the idea of the BBGS makan place as well as the plaque. Everytime I pass by Pavilion, I get heartsick as I didn't get the chance to study in the secondary school before it was demolished. What a pity. But we will keep the memory alive!

I get goosebumps EVERYTIME i read any kind of article/blog with BBGS in it. all the memories just flashes me by with great misses and the longing to be brought back to the old days. i only had fond memories of my school days - which reminds me of how carefree life was back then.. *sighs*

I am psyched with the idea of establishing BBGS kantin (already imagining it is with set ups of long benches instead of typical cafe chairs). i'd love to contribute & putting the whole idea into reality but just don't know how. let me know!
